Application: High speed wireless connection in aerial vehicle for entertainment and service

Description

Currently, in-flight wireless access is made through Wi-Fi. Existing in-flight Wi-Fi is very slow and very expensive. As an example, American airline’s in-flight internet connection speed is approximately 500-600 Kbps for download for an individual user and approximately 300 Kbps for upload. It shows a significant difference from the speed of the existing 4G and 5G.

Devices

  • Two type of connection scenarios are needed; Devices connected to an access point and server (e.g. access or server onboard) locally , and the external communications (e.g. the onboard server communicate to a ground server). The characterstics on this row is for onboard/local operations only. For external communications the E2E latency may be more than 800ms if connected through a GEO satellite and data rate, reliability requirements may vary.
